Gameplay
Play as a lost Ember on a journey to find meaning and their home. On your way, you’ll come across sometimes easy, sometimes difficult puzzles that’ll allow you to travel through certain areas. Straight away I was slightly reminded of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild where you also have to explore and work out puzzles. Just, this is a little easier.
Graphics
The graphics are what drew me to download The Last Campfire in the first place. The dreamy vibe the graphics let off just blew my mind the whole time I was playing. This is enough for me to keep it on my phone – and it’s definitely of console-quality. If you have this game on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, or Xbox One, let us know if there’s much of a difference compared to the Apple Arcade version!
Music & Sounds
Along with the stunning graphics, the music and sounds impressed me a lot. In the background, you can hear relaxing music that could honestly be sleeping music, and a woman commentating things that happen. Usually, she’ll give you clues or just simply tell you what’s happening.
Controls
To control the Ember, tap on an area on the map. Although these controls are relatively okay, I would’ve personally preferred if there was a joystick or an option to drag anywhere to move.
The Power of in-app Purchases
This game is included in the Apple Arcade subscription (£4.99) so it has no ads or in-app purchases.
The Verdict
The Last Campfire is an amazing game with so many similarities to console games that I was shocked that this is included in Apple Arcade rather than just its own purchase. However, the puzzles can be quite difficult at times which tends to put me off but if you’re someone who loves a challenge, this might just be the casual game for you.
