Gameplay
The first thing I noticed when I started to play Golf Rival was how similar it was to Golf Clash – but it wasn’t just a few similarities. Golf Rival is essentially a carbon copy to the point where I am unsure how Rein Technology hasn’t been sued yet.
Despite the similarities, Golf Rival is a fun game. But again, it’s probably to do with the fact that Golf Clash is my favorite golf game on the app store.
Graphics
The graphics are very similar to Golf Clash, with a slightly lower budget. The aesthetic is colorful, cartoon-like and don’t seem to lag (as of yet). Once you unlock the arena on level 8, you can unlock other and more difficult maps and play against your Facebook friends.
Music & Sounds
The music and sounds don’t really play a big part in Golf Rival’s gameplay, and again, very similar to Golf Clash. There are sounds when you take a shot, and a ladies voice will say “Great shot” or “Perfect shot” depending on the quality of your shot – obviously. Like the vast majority of app games, there is an option to turn the sound off.
Controls
Golf Rival’s controls are again, very similar to another game that I won’t mention again. You get the picture by now. To take a shot, hold the ball and drag it straight back until it hits the circle. Once you’ve done that, release to hit when the pointed is aligned with the area in the center. As you get closer, hold the ball and drag slowly back to align the line with the hole and then release when the pointed is aligned with the area in the center.
The Power of in-app Purchases
From the store, you can purchase chests, balls, gems, and coins. All of these things will improve your gameplay experience, however, they are definitely not necessary. You can improve your skills for free with practice.

The Verdict
I did enjoy playing this game, but it was far too similar to other golf games for it to stand out. There was absolutely nothing unique about Golf Rival and it’s unlikely that I’m going to keep it on my phone. On a good note, the controls were easy to follow and the gameplay was fairly easy to play.
