Gameplay
Game of Thrones: Tale of Crows is here on Apple Arcade! We’ve had our fair share of experiences with GoT games such as Beyond the Wall and Conquest which weren’t the best. So let’s hope this experience is a lot better!
I’ve got to admit, I really didn’t expect this type of gameplay from a Game of Thrones game. The aim of the game is to manage the Night’s Watch of Castle Black that defends the wall that protects Westeros against the White Walkers and other dangers that happen in the North. You send commanders out to conduct various expeditions and scout for enemies that may be approaching.
It’s primarily a game based on text, which is what I’m most shocked about. I thought this was going to be an action-packed game, but I found myself feeling pretty relaxed for the most part.
Graphics
The graphics are definitely my favorite part. It has a very simple, yet relaxing look to it which I didn’t expect from a game based on GoT.
Music & Sounds
To match with the relaxing graphics, the music and sounds also have a really soft vibe to it. It still fits in perfectly with the theme, it’s just a little more minimalistic. It’s the perfect combo!
Controls
While there’s not exactly controls available as this is a text game, you need to hold down on your reply to lock it in. This gives you time to change your mind before making a decision. I think if it was a tapping control, a lot of players would get frustrated by picking the wrong decision.
The Power of in-app Purchases
As this is a game that requires a subscription to Apple Arcade ($4.99) a month, it doesn’t have any in-app purchases. I love how cheap Apple Arcade is as it really allows you to get deep with mobile gaming without having to worry about spending loads to get far.
The Verdict
Game of Thrones: Tale of Crows is not what I expected at all in a game like this, but I was pleasantly surprised. Although I probably won’t continue playing it myself permanently, I can see this being a great fit for any GoT fans out there.
