Gameplay

The gameplay consists of two games!

Word Villas starts off by telling the story of a girl (Rachel) who was cheated on by her boyfriend so she goes back to her childhood home in order to feel safe and start a new beginning. Once she gets there, she realizes that the house needs a lot of work done. Starting off with the gate, you’re taken into a mini-game which has a very similar concept to Word Cookies. Completing the level gives you a star that allows you to fix the next part of the house where you can choose the design and color of the item. There’s usually two that are free and two that cost money. You can also earn better designs from watching ads.

With the mini-game being similar to Word Cookies, the main gameplay of fixing the house reminds me of Homescapes/Gardenscapes. I do like when two games are merged together, and I definitely find the gameplay for Word Villas better than Gardenscapes as I’m not a fan of match-3 games and word games definitely get your brain working harder.

Graphics

The graphics are cartoon-like!

The graphics are cartoon-like and colorful. Like the gameplay, they resemble Gardenscapes but I think Word Villas is slightly better. The characters have facial expressions whenever their character talks, but they don’t have any constant movements except for when they’re walking around the house.

Music & Sounds

The music is that typical sad music that these types of games start with and it gets progressively better as Rachel’s life improves. The characters don’t talk, so you will have to read everything they say but luckily there is a skip button for any impatient folk! I’d say it’s fine to skip it as I don’t feel as if the storyline plays a big part in the gameplay.

Controls

The controls consist of tapping and dragging!

Just like Gardenscapes, Word Villas is touch-based. You click on the part of the house you want to renovate, and in the mini-game, you drag the letters to connect and make a word. Once you’ve completed the mini-game and picked the items you want, Rachel does the rest of the work for you. And repeat.

The Power of in-app Purchases

Buy bundles, packages, coins!

From the store, you can purchase coins, packages, and bundles.

Coins

  • 720 coins for £2.99
  • 1340 coins for £4.99
  • 2940 coins for £9.99
  • 6240 coins for £19.99
  • 13440 coins for £38.99

Packages

  • Novice Package for £0.99
  • Coins Package for £9.99
  • Items Package for £19.99

Bundle

  • Super Bundle for £5.99
  • Mega Bundle for £12.99
  • Brilliant Bundle for £23.99
  • Ultimate Bundle for £48.99

In all honesty, I found the bundles and packages to be decent money for what they are. Although you can definitely complete this game without spending any real money, spending your real money will give you hints if you get stuck. The levels can become frustrating if you can’t find the right words, so I can definitely see why someone would want to spend money on it.

The Verdict

What did you think of Word Villas?

Word Villas is a fun little merge of two games. Instead of downloading two games, why not just have them in the same app? The gameplay was fun, but after a while, it did become quite boring and repetitive. The word mini-game was stupidly easy at first, but after some time it became stupidly hard – there was no in-between. So it might be worth making an in-app purchase in order to get somewhere in Word Villas.

If you decide to download Word Villas, let us know what you think and if you agree or disagree with the things we said. Happy gaming and stay casual!
