Hey Casual Gamers!
It feels good to know that some of casual readers of The Casual App Gamer are in the same space as I am. Going through a doom scroll on your social media only to get hit in the face with an ad for a decent game!
I mean, it looks casual enough to do on the fly and I can for sure do it better than this fail guy tempting me into another download, right?
Well today, lets talk about a heavily advertised game that goes by Stormshot: Isle of Adventure. This casual app shows Gameplay of a player attempting a trickshot to kill the enemies while saving an ally. If you have ever been privy to this ad you also know that the player fails in dramatic fashion only to have the enemies taunting them to try again.
So, would this be your experience when playing Stormshot? More importantly, is it worth casual phone or tablet space and time?
Lets take aim and killshot our way into this casual review!
Gameplay
Stormshot starts off with a rather interesting story of a Captain of the sea coming across an undiscovered isle. Through completing puzzles and quests more of the story unfolds and a variety of characters interact with the Captain to unlock the secrets of this mysterious isle.
The casual app have way more than just solving puzzles! With a decent storyline and a very helpful questlog og, casual players can join themselves playing without having to invest a great deal into knowing what’s going on.
As the game progresses more types of Gameplay opens up. From puzzle shooter to war game to strategy building this casual app offers a bit of something for everyone.
Graphics
While I’m not an avid fan of the Stormshot’s graphics, I’m not too opposed to them either. When I think of casual gaming, PS5 graphics aren’t really coming to mind anyway, so casual graphics for casual doings works in this situation.
As far as ads are concerned, the gameplay graphics are captured in the advertisements. This is actually the kind of thing we normally don’t get from internet ads so in this way, this casual app is winning!
Personally there are some parts that could use more attention to detail. Not anything huge i could put my finger on, but there’s just a sense of lacking that isn’t that big of a deal.
That said, it’s also a noticeable lacking. Not stoppling gameplay lacking thankfully.
Music
Stormshot has a rather respectable BGM library. When it comes to hyper casual gaming, it’s very possible to expect no music in some areas. That not an issue in this casual app.
While the real question is do I care about the music, it’s a welcoming assault on the ears that sets the mood for gameplay.
Truthfully, there’s no real reason to keep the sound on while playing. Most cues are visual and there’s no action cue to listen for. If the casual situation demands a complete escape into something, then by all means crack open that airpod case and enjoy the journey. It won’t be a disappointing one.
Controls
Stormshot’s controls are rather decent and straightforward. With most of the demand coming from the sharpshooter stages where aiming is a key, but thankfully not a hassle.
There is a real feeling of being overwhelmed by menus and options however. The quest log does it’s job putting players in the right direction, but don’t sway too far from the log if you aren’t ready to be lost!
Outside of that, there’s a real sense of being able to progress without really knowing what’s going on. That can be a bad thing, but it works with this casual app.
The Power of in-app Purchases
Well, Stormshot seems to be going well….maybe too well?
Truthfully, there’s a few plaguing asks for purchases here and there, but for the most part there’s a sense of being able to make legimate progression without a need to make a purchase.
If free to play had a picture in the dictionary, this casual app would most likely be example four. The sheer amount of progression to get through feels good for new players and sets up for those looking for a daily grind kind of game.
Like most casual games, there’s a point where the buys are tempting. Always look for a sale as they are plenty for first buyers.
The Verdict
At the end of the day, Stormshot delivers above it’s advertised pitch. Sharpshooting levels are abundant and challenging over time, which was the main reason we are here to play! The graphics feel a bit last generation, but it shouldn’t stop you from playing. There’s actually a few cinematics that keep the same graphic energy, but enjoyable.
Speaking of enjoyable, when it comes to Christmas shopping, Temu has great offers on items you didn’t even know you wanted! Take a casual break from ghost pirates and check out some of the deals today!
