Gameplay
Papa Luigi’s Pizza is a casual game where you need to sort out pizzas. There’s a machine on the left-hand side of the screen that shows a type of pizza and a conveyer belt carrying a number of pizzas into the machine. The pizzas that go in the machine need to match the pizza shown on it and to do that you need to zap all the pizzas that aren’t up to Papa Luigi’s standard. If you zap the wrong pizza, you will lose points.
Surprisingly, the gameplay is a lot harder than it looks. Timing the lasers at the right time and being able to check the pizzas before they go in the machine is hard work!
Graphics
It’s apparent to me that this is a very jokey, indie game that isn’t to be taken seriously. So I feel as if I don’t really have the right to judge the graphics as I think they’re purposely basic. The graphics make the game look very retro, which is great, and they’re very colorful which adds to the classic feel.
Music & Sounds
Like the graphics, I don’t think the music is to be taken seriously either. The music is pretty tinny and loud like a classic 8-bit game. However, like the vast majority of games out there, there is an option to turn the music off if it becomes too much for you.
Controls
The controls take a level of skill – it’s important to shoot the laser at the correct time as shooting it early or late can ruin your chances of scoring points. To shoot the laser, just tap at the screen.
The Power of in-app Purchases
There are no in-app currencies that you have to purchase in Papa Luigi’s Pizza, so it’s essentially a completely free game. However, there are ads and for the small cost of £0.99, you can:
- Remove all ads
- Get one free continue at the end of every game
- Further the global pizza agenda
- Support an indie developer
This doesn’t help the gameplay, but they also have a merch shop with 3 t-shirts and a sticker to further support the developer.
The Verdict
On The Casual App Gamer, we don’t usually review games as weird and wonderful as this, but we’re so glad we gave Papa Luigi’s Pizza a spin. As this isn’t a game you can necessarily complete, it’s a great game for those spare few hours you have after work, or even on your daily train commute.
