Hey, Casual Gamers!

Card games are the best casual gaming to do!  There I said it.

While this is a personal feel for me, and while I also enjoy the myriad of other casual apps, a good card game will always do it for me.  Skip-Bo offers quick plays with others around the world for a chance to empty your hand to be the winner.  Is this worth your casual time and phone space?

Draw what you need and throw down on this casual review!

Gameplay

Play against 3 to 5 online players!

Playing Skip-Bo doesn’t feel very difficult.  Players start with a handful of cards and a short deck of cards.  Players win by getting rid of their short deck of cards before the other players do.

It feels like Uno, but with a twist, and of course no cards that ruin friendships.

Players play cards in order until they can make no more moves.  Should players empty their hand, they can be replenished by the deck of unused cards.

Understanding the rules is the first part, learning how to get rid of your short deck is another!

Graphics

Colorful Boards and easy Menus is the casual player’s dream!

Skip-Bo has a visual look that focuses on gameplay.  Sure there’s a good landscape behind the game, but it feels more relaxing than anything.  With casual card games, the fluidity of the deck makes a world of difference in gameplay.

Thankfully this casual app offers seamless play and finds ways to visually draw players into the match.

Music

Events help with getting more coins for PVP battles!

Skip-Bo offers a track that’s pretty chill to listen to.  It’s by far not it’s selling point, but being able to zone out to something that’s not annoying is always helpful.

While there’s options to turn off sounds, it can help during PVP battles due to the timer.  Outside of that, unless you need some random mellow noise in your life, this casual app might be the one for you.

Controls

Look before tapping! You might tap over a win.

Skip-Bo has rather simple controls, but it will take some time to get used to actual gameplay.

There’s some in-game help, but after that help players will have to ensure that the numbers match up and those in the pile to win.  It’s not a deal breaker, but keeping minor attention to what’s going on will help save you from an embarrassing loss.

But hey, it’s okay to lose as long as you learn from your mistakes!

In-app Purchases

Energy for Adventures, or Coins for PVP. Simple enough.

Thankfully, Skip-Bo doesn’t have much when it comes to In-app purchases.  Each purchase comes with an ad blocker that personally, doesn’t seem to do much.  I mean the ads aren’t aggressive like in most casual gaming apps.

Truthfully, a good portion of the solo boards are easy to clear and reward coins for PVP.  Depending on how PVP hungry you are, burning though coins can be an issue.  This is probably the only thing I’m not a fan of.

The PVP style is a winner take all with the rest losing their initial bet to get in.  So attempting to be great at this casual app may prove costly.

The Verdict

Is this casual purchase really worth it?

Overall, Skip-Bo might have to stay on the phone and tablet.  There’s enough going on to keep my attention, but not enough to open the casual coffers.

Some games can be rather intense, so which in turn makes us better (hopefully).
