Hey, Casual Gamers!

Simple gaming is at the heart of any casual gamer playing on their phone or tablet.  When taunted with an advertisement for one of those chill games, gamers will be wary.

Today, this gamer takes a few ads to the face for my viewers of Thecasualappgamer.com

Cup Hero offers gameplay to those willing to do some strategic placement with balls in a cup.

Sounds simple enough?  Load a cup up with some balls and lets drop in out this casual review!

Gameplay

Gain the most balls you can to power up!

Cup Heroes starts off pretty straightforward with a hero on a mission.  To get past the wave of monsters, players must effectively solve puzzles by getting the maximum number of balls by gaining multipliers on the way down to the other cup.

Depending on the amount collected, the hero fighting above can select from three random power-ups that help with clearing the incoming waves.

RPG elements come into player after the first level is clear, as players can gain and equip armor to beef up their hero.

This casual app is pretty chill, with a hint of danger.  After a few epic power up picks, the hero starts putting out some pretty solid numbers.  Just don’t forget that armor saves lives between shots

Graphics

Collect enough balls to gain power-ups!

Truthfully, Cup Heroes isn’t that intense graphic wise, which really gives it the charm it needs to shine.

Do casual players really need console like graphics to put balls in another cup?  I’d say probably not, but I wouldn’t mind a little zoom in and out action as the hero shreds (or gets shredded).

Outside of that minor issue, this casual app will be enjoyable enough to look at and keep players engaged.

Music

Gear yourself, the higher levels are brutal!

Kudos for Cup Heroes having an actual legit background playlist.  While not overwhelming, it does give that sense of adventure needed to catch a ball in a cup.

This casual app doesn’t really require sound, unless you are just in need of some, and then it hits all the right buttons sound wise.  I’m sure the sounds of balls multiplying and falling into a cup may be a bit tedious, but this doesn’t take away from the game.

Controls

Need to get away from the game, pick up were you left off when you reopen the app!

Cup Heroes has some very casual controls with a bit of quirkiness to them.  While this doesn’t need a directional pad to play, controlling the cup can sometimes be annoying.

Moving the cup to the right placement takes some time.  As soon as players hit the top cup, there’s a delay until the balls drop.  Within that time, players must make a snap decision on where they want the balls to go.  Getting into the corner of the playing field can be tricky, so swipe fast.

In-app Purchases

Now for the cost to enjoy Cup Heroes.

If you are familiar with taking an ad to the face to join your favorite casual app, this one follows suit.  I mean, there’s always a way to remove the ads, but of course it’s going to cost you.

This casual app doesn’t do anything like ad counters or only certain ads are gone, but the forced ads that randomly interrupt gameplay will be gone.  Should you see a power up and you don’t have the correct price, a dip into the ad tank will still be there to resolve any deficiencies.

As always, should this casual app move you to break open that digital wallet, there are sales abound to choose from rather than just hitting the store for resources.  Times are tough, and sales are what keeps us going!

The Verdict

If you see the dailies, locate and complete!

Yeah, I think Cup Heroes might be a keeper.  The simplicity of cup puzzles along with some colorful artwork has chiseled a place into my phone.

This casual app does have some difficulty to it, so don’t think this will be a casual walk in the park.  Gear will be required and players will need to stay on top of their upgrades and armor.  Sure there’s some rather cool power ups to keep you afloat, but the enemy has access to alot of the damage ones.  Do the math to win!

Already the Cup Heroes’ master and looking to show off?  Drop a comment in the section below and let us know which armor set is your favorite!

Happy Gaming, and as always, keep it casual!
