Hey, Casual Gamers!
We need more Tower Defense Communities. We all have that one Tower Defense game we defend with our battery power. They are hard to come by, and some of them are duds.
Magic Defense offers a new way to engage in killing waves of monster with hero towers to do the job. Will this review make players stand tall and defend the wall?
Check out this casual review to know more.
Gameplay
I”m starting to become more of a fan of casual apps with no real story. I mean, sure having a great story puts players into the game, but simple ones help me get to the action.
Players choose a hero with an ability to make into a tower. more can be added as players gain experience gems from the fallen monsters.
There’s a rather interesting balance players must understand when building up their towering army. Every option comes with five stars, representing their power on the field. Towers also come with an up-gradable special ability that boosts the dps (damage per second) of all the same towers.
So will you go for a full board of towers, or a few with bigger dps? It’s these kind of choices that keep this casual gamer playing.
Graphics
Magic Defense has a different take on animation than I’m used to. This casual app feels colorful and artistic, but in a simple and manageable way.
It wouldn’t be my first choice of artwork, but it happened to grow on me after awhile. Maybe because it’s so animated, it has an adult taste to it.
At any rate, the rest of this casual app gives the same familiar yet distant artistic take to it.
Music
Magic Defense has a rather legit sound package. The background music makes menu sifting less of a tedious thing, while the battle music isn’t annoying when it becomes repetitive.
There’s no real need to expect a console musical score from a casual app, so when I hear an app get it into that sweet spot, it’s headphones in, and party on.
Those looking for a no music experience can enjoy that there’s no real audio cues to watch for. Just killing, defending, and upgrading. Mostly in that order.
Controls
Keeping it simple, Magic Defense has no real way to annoying players control wise. You can’t even pick the deployment spot of heroes. Once selected, they will find their own place and get to work.
As players progress through this casual app, more options will be given, such as the ability to have four different pets to help with waves. These can be selected and have an entire power system to themselves.
So in exchange for control, players have to balance the right team to get through the levels. Definitely a satisfying and a win for all casual players.

Will Mage Defense cost me?
Thankfully, good times can be had for free! This casual app is pretty light on the ads in your face, but generous when you want to get the edge on resources.
I consider this a win as there’s not many things in life that can be done for free without getting yolked into an advertisment. Tis the bane, and oil of the free world.
As I digress, the sales are worth looking at. Many bundles are present and various enough to not just be stuck with store prices.
Another great win is that there’s a flood of free resources to be had. Not to mention the other various ways of play that give different rewards needed to level higher.
The Verdict
Overall, Magic Defense is a fickle keeper. I like knowing it’s on my phone and I can enjoy constant progression, but as a semi Tower Defense it’s gotta be in the collection box of the rest of my phone app games.
Don’t let the artwork fool you, this is an actual game that will feast on the casuals slacking. It takes a good strategy and a bit of attention to “git gud” and progress.
Don’t be afraid to mix up heroes should you find yourself stuck on a stage. A good mixture of power ups and towers can eliminate any monster standing in your path!
