Gameplay
We all love a good bit of interior decorating, but doing it in real life can become expensive. There are quite a few apps that allow you to design interior but Home Design Makeover stood out to me due to its modern look about it. And I’m a sucker for modern design.
Playing is simple. The aim of the game is to help your client get the dream interior they’ve always wanted. The first person you come across is on a tight budget but wants to revamp her living room. To add furniture, change the wallpaper, and even add plants, you need to play a match-3 game. We all know how to play match-3 games, but just in case you don’t, I’ll briefly explain it. Match-3 games usually consist of a board of colored icons. To get points, you have to match 3 of the matching icons together.
Once you’ve completed the level, you will be rewarded with coins and with those coins you can continue to decorate your room.
Graphics
The graphics aren’t impressive. But they’re not terrible either. I really like how relaxing everything feels. From the calm, pastel colors on the match-3 board to the feeling of turning that empty boring room to a homely, modern living room.
There are two characters that help you along this journey called Troy and Julia – they also wear matching pink outfits which I think is super cute.
Music
Following on from the characters, they don’t have a voiceover so you will have to read everything they say. It’s a little bit annoying but hey, it’s still a decent game.
The music is homely, relaxing and nice to listen to. It isn’t annoying in the slightest and it’s lovely to have on while you’re playing.
Controls
The controls are easy-peasy. To add decorate your room, all you have to do is drag the icon to the furniture/wall etc. You will then get 3 options at the bottom of the screen to choose from. As for the match-3 game, all you need to do is a swipe to match!
The Power of in-app Purchases
At the top of the screen, there are 3 numbers for energy, coins, and diamonds. The only thing you can actually purchase is diamonds. I guess if you could purchase coins, the whole idea of the game would be ruined.
With the diamonds, you can purchase boosters to help you in the match-3 game such as rainbow slot, two cross blasters, double-shot rockets, and two jumbo pieces. In my opinion, I think purchasing these diamonds isn’t necessary because you could easily complete the game without – but it definitely helps.

- 2,400 diamonds for £19.99
- 6,000 diamonds for £48.99

The Verdict
For a match-3 game, I actually enjoyed playing Home Design Makeover. I’m a bit of a sucker for design so this let me put my interior design skills to the test and I think I made a pretty nice living room if I do say so myself! What I also loved about this game is that it’s perfect for any age and would be lovely to just sit on the sofa and play after a long day of work. There’s something very therapeutic about it and I think that’s what makes it unique. I will most likely continue playing Home Design Makeover as it’s lovely for those spare minutes you have.
