Hey Casual Gamers! While I’m not the best at skating in real life, I always enjoy the times I don’t fall and for a few moments look casually awesome!
Until I get better, maybe Flip Skater can help me out. Lets check out our review to find out!
Gameplay
If tricking off the half pipe is your thing, the instructions will be a breeze! Starting off with the default character, the object is to pull off as many tricks as possible while nailing the landing.
The simplicity is the best part of this casual app. With better performance comes more coins! Which is good because EVERYTHING is locked! The more you play (or in some cases, pay) the more you can put coins into the prize machine.
It’s not really a bad system, especially when looking at all the boards and tricks to be purchased!
Graphics
Smooth graphics make for a great casual app! For all the coins it takes to unlock more of the game, the detail in the artwork is worth it. Every new board comes with it’s own design and preset powers which gives it a great feel when saving up for it!
Music
The music is pretty basic sadly. A few rifts in the start but once you start playing, it’s just ambient noises and sound effects. It’s pretty relaxing so it doesn’t bother me much.
It definitely could use one of my Spotify playlists but the silence can help with landing some pretty pro tricks.
Controls
The only important part of the controls in this Flip Skater is attempting to pull off tricks. holding down makes the skater perform the trick. The next part is knowing when to let go and safely land into the half-pipe.
This part takes some time because if you’re off even in the slightest you will fall on your face. Over time I found that it’s ideal to only try one trick and let go when you are the height of your jump.
Or your could be casually skillful and land two tricks in one jump!
The Power of in-app Purchases
While there is a store in Flip Skater, it’s not pushed. There’s a ton of ads to sit through but not enough to be too annoying.
Additionally, taking a few ads to the face will usually double coins or other rewards.
I haven’t found a real need to spend any real life funds on this app, but I could see it in the future. Hopefully when there’s a sale or something to combine a few things.
Unless you have a passion to beat a record, I wouldn’t really be in a rush to spend anything on this. It feels much better grinding for coins!
Another interesting thing to point out is that the prize machine gives a free prize to start off, then the price increases with each use. This will eventually make your grind that much longer!
The Verdict
I’m a bit at odds on how I really feel about Flip Skater. I feel as the later levels in this game could be pretty enjoyable, but there is a pretty intensive grind ahead.
It’s pretty good to find a casual game that forces you to grind for goodness, but at the same time putting a few bucks into this casual app can get you pretty far!
