Houseparty Review!

“Houseparty is the face-to-face social network where you can connect with the people you care about most. The app makes connecting face to face effortless, alerting you when your friends are “in the house” and ready to chat so you can jump right into the conversation. The same goes for you opening the app! Your friends will know you’re in the app and ready to chat, so they can join you (…because rejected calls are so last year). Houseparty is truly the next best thing to hanging out in person. See your friends more often on Houseparty.”

Gameplay

Play games with your friends while on a video call!

Houseparty has become the hot new app to play during this pandemic. If you haven’t tried it out, where have you been? Luckily for you, I’m going to review it for you today so you know whether it’s worth your time or not.

Although this is a little different from our usual reviews, we still class Houseparty as a game. This is mainly because you can use it to play games with your friends while video chatting with them. As FaceTime doesn’t have this feature, it’s a good reason to download this app.

The games include:

  • Word Racers
  • Heads Up!
  • Trivia
  • Chips and Guac
  • Quick Draw!
  • Magic 8 Ball

Once you’re all set up, you’ll see your face almost straight away but be careful, if you see an unlocked sign, anyone in your friend’s list can join. Just like a real house party, a lot of uninvited guests turn up so if you’re wanting a private session with someone, you need to make sure you lock the room. I found a few times while I’ve been having a conversation, random friends have joined because I forgot to lock the room, but some may like this.

When looking at your friends’ list, you can see exactly who people are on a call with and you can join as long as it’s unlocked. This makes it easy to set up calls when you have a big friendship group as there’s no join link, codes, or anything complicated like that.

Controls

Control by tapping and adding friends!

There are no controls, in particular, however, for the games there are. Most of them consist of tapping or dragging as they’re pretty simple to play but still fun.

The Power of in-app Purchases

This app has no in-app purchases, mainly because there isn’t a need for them. There are no ads either so it’s perfect for those on a budget and maybe don’t want to pay for Zoom.

The Verdict

What did you think of Houseparty?!

To put it simply, Houseparty is a huge step up from FaceTime. FaceTime is great for business or casual calls, however, Houseparty allows you to have fun with your friends even when you’re not together. It’s the perfect quarantine app and I really enjoy using it!

If you use Houseparty, let us know what you think and if you agree or disagree with any of the things we said. Happy gaming and stay casual!
