Gameplay
If you have never played Dominoes, it’s rather simple to learn. While there are various ways to play with Dominoes, the most common is Block Game with multiples of fives. Each player starts the game with seven random Dominoes from the boneyard. The player with the highest double Domino starts first.
The Object is to be the first player to use all of their Dominoes on the table while making points in multiples of five. These points are added by calculating the total of the Domino side at the end of the board. When a player plays their last Domino, this is called a Domino. The remaining players must show the value of the Dominoes left in their hand and award those points to the player that Dominoed.
The player that cannot make a move on the board has to draw from the boneyard until a move can be made. If there are no more dominoes in the boneyard, that player must pass to the next one.
While the explanation can seem daunting, playing a few games make most of it clear. This casual app is rather good with pointers of how to play.
Games can go up to 300 points, but starting games are set at 50 points.
Graphics
Dominoes Gold has a very pleasing setting. While looks aren’t really the winning factor of this casual app, it does feel good to know a simple board can go a long way in replay. As players progress, different styles of Dominoes can be earned and used while playing.
It’s easy to see by the number of different sets that there is some room for customizing that makes each match feel personal.

Music & Sounds
Sadly, There’s very little BGM to talk about with Dominoes Gold. If there wasn’t for the SFX while playing matches, this would be a total silent casual app!
This can be a good thing while playing music while playing is part of Dominoes in real life. It does seem like a miss on the developer’s part however. There’s nothing like a catchy tune that keeps players grinding on a leaderboard.
It’s not much to ding this casual app, but definitely a missed point.
Controls
Simple controls make for a great casual app! Dominoes Gold doesn’t have much to talk about as far as controls.
During gameplay there are helpful hints that guides the match in the right direction. The boneyard shows up when Dominoes are needed and plays can be suggested on while choosing which domino to play.
The Power of in-app Purchases
As with many skillz games, Dominoes Gold offers matches that can be betted on. Depending on the mode chosen players can spend money on matches. Winners get their money back plus their opponents.
While there are free medals and tickets, they don’t serve for much unless you have a great deal.
This gives the possibility of actually making money while playing! Be warned that matches for money are competitive and leave very little room for error. Players should practice and play enough games before jumping into paid games.
Like with any bets, know your limits and never bet more than you should!
The Verdict
Overall, Dominoes Gold is one of those casual apps that always has to be on your phone and is readily there for you to practice on. Grinding out tokens and matches while listening to your favorite playlist is the best part of casual playing.
