Hey Casual Gamers! Nothing feels better than going on a casual killing spree! Critical Ops seems to offer a battlefield style setup with other gamers online for some epic match ups.
Is it worth the download? Let’s get into this review and find out!
Gameplay
So while there is a little bit of story to dive into, the meat and potatoes of this casual app is the fighting.
After brief tutorial you are given the option of what kind of match you want to join and off you go! This has the feel or many FPS on mobile phones so the orientation isn’t that bad.
If you’ve watched the video, I’m not the most well versed when it comes to casual apps like this, but I did manage to get a few good shots in!
Graphics
Truthfully, I felt as though I was on a PC or a console. Everything is pretty visible and there’s no areas or clipping or lost resolution.
Outside of matches the menus have been done to a fine finish. Everything is easy to find and the tutorial does it’s best to navigate all the important areas.
Naturally, the weapons of choice are highly detailed and insanely customizable.
Music
It might be safe to say that no one is here for the music! Consider that there’s not a real soundtrack I remembered hearing. The sounds and explosions however are very crisp. It’s almost a necessity to hear where the incoming fire is coming from!
Other than that, I feel like grinding on Critical Ops will be mostly done via playlist going and sound on. I don’t think that an actual soundtrack would do this casual app any favors!
Controls
So sometimes the controls can be a bit touch and go. Naturally there’s always some type of skill-cap to aim and fire on the move. Critical Ops does a good job answering some of this by allowing a roam free camera that can be move by any hand.
You can also move the camera and fire at the same time. This does take a bit of getting used to, but highly effective in a casual combat situation.
It can be noted as well that some of the buttons are a bit close, but they often don’t feel that way. It just might be better to get a mobile joystick to handle the controls.
The Power of in-app Purchases
While there is a store, I haven’t had a need to use it yet. Credits can be used to upgrade and customize weapons, while blue credits come from duplicate items in daily crates.
There’s also an elite pass that gives exclusive skins and premium cases. for 1400 credits it seems like the best deal to make!
The best way to get credits if you don’t want to spend money is completing various offers that give credits. Most of the offers are fairly easy, while others require sign ups or certain requirements.
The Verdict
Critical Ops has some pretty good potential to it. While there’s many first person shooters out there to consider, this one is pretty awesome. While there’s room for improvement in my skills, I felt mostly happy about my progress and look forward to doing better.
I think the biggest issue with me will be finding a way to aim and fire with touch settings. Getting my hands on a mobile controller might be in the works!
