The PS5 is Coming – What do we know?
The PS5 is long-awaited, with the Playstation 4 that was released in 2013. Whether you’re team Microsoft or Sony, it’s exciting to find out which new console is better. Check out our overview of the Xbox Series X on our page.

- Bespoke 8-core AMD chipset (based on third-generation Ryzen architecture and with Navi GPU)

Not a whole deal of information has been released about the PS5’s specs, but there are a few things we do know.
It’ll be powered by a CPU based on AMD’s third-generation, eight-core Ryzen processor, as well as a custom GPU based on the AMD Radeon Navi line. The graphics card will allow the console to deliver ray-tracing – this is an ultra-realistic lighting technology. The PS5 may even support Nvidia G-Sync.
It’s rumored the fast 2-GHz GPU could double the power of the Xbox One X. 3D audio is another feature, which promises to be more immersive than that of the PS4 whether you’re playing through your headphones or speakers. It’ll be able to allow for resolutions of up to 8K and the PS4 maxes out at 4K – so it’s quite a big jump.
The system will feature a fast solid-state drive that’ll load games a lot faster. In a demonstration, Marvel’s Spider-Man that normally took 15 seconds to load, took under a second.
Additionally, the PS5 will still support physical discs.
Design
A Sony patent that was released in August 2019 has given us a clue about the PS5’s potential design. The images show that it looks like it could be a chunky console, complete with USB ports, a disc drive and a new V-shaped chassis that looks as if it’ll keep the system cool.
Release date
Sony has confirmed that the PS5 will release in Holiday 2020. This could mean any time between October and December, but it has been predicted to release November 20, 2020. This makes a lot of sense as it would leave enough time to get orders in before Christmas!
This release is going to create a lot of tension with the Xbox Series X, as that’s releasing at the same time. Which one are you going to buy?
Price
The price has not yet been confirmed by Sony, and that’s because they haven’t actually decided how much it’ll cost. It’s rumored that it’ll be around the $499 mark. However, Sony have said they want to keep it cheap while staying competitive with other consoles.
Launch games
The current confirmed PS5 games include Outriders and Godfall. Ubisoft also confirmed in a conference call that upcoming titles such as Watch Dogs Legion, Gods and Monsters and Rainbow Six Quarantine will also feature on both the PS5 and Xbox Series X.
Is it worth the purchase?
Right now, based on the things we already know, it seems as if it’s going to be an amazing console. However, due to how similar it is to the Xbox Series X, it’s going to be a competitive time for both Sony and Microsoft. But what’s new?
