First up on Casual Gaming News this week:
The Epic Games Store Will Give Away 15 Free Games Over Christmas
“The Epic Games Store will give away 15 games later this month, with one title set to be offered free every day from December 17-31. Each game will only be available to claim for 24 hours but will remain free forever once claimed. The offer will launch alongside the Epic Games Store’s Holiday Sale, which will include discounts of up to 75%.
Epic CEO Tim Sweeney claimed earlier this year that the promotion has caused sales to increase for developers who participate. “People have discovered a lot of great games that way,” he told Gamespot. “It’s been a benefit for game developers. “Most developers who launch their games for free on the store found that their sales on Steam and on console platforms actually increased after they went free on Epic because of increased awareness and so it’s been a really positive thing and it’s brought tens of millions of new users into the Epic Games ecosystem and that’s been a wonderful thing for the company.”
If you’re a fan of Epic Store’s selection, be sure to keep an eye on the free games available from the 17th. You don’t want to regret it!

New ‘Pokemon: Yellow’ Easter Egg Discovered 22 Years After The Release
“Pokemon Yellow fans have discovered a new Easter egg in the game, 22 years after it was first released.
The surprise was shared by Twitter user and Pokemon YouTuber Dobbs, and involves the Rock Tunnel in the game. This tunnel leads players to Lavender Town for the first time, and is pitch black upon entry. Ordinarily, a player must use HM05 to teach a Pokemon Flash to light up the cave. In Pokemon Yellow, that Pokemon is usually Pikachu, although it doesn’t have to be.
While Flash is not officially necessary for players to complete the Rock Tunnel, without it the screen is entirely black – rendering the various puzzles of the tunnel near impossible. Until recently, Flash was thought to be the only way to illuminate it, although Dobbs has discovered another way.
If Pikachu learns either Thunderbolt or Thunder in the Rock Tunnel, talking to it will cause it to spark and briefly light up the screen. While this is not permanent like Flash, it does reveal the whole screen and can be used repeatedly to complete the tunnel.”
Isn’t it crazy that even after all these years we’re still discovering Easter Egg’s in games? This one is pretty cool, especially since it comes from a rather old Pokemon Game. It’s official, we know nothing!

Skyrim is Coming to Xbox Game Pass Next Week
“Skyrim will be the next big Bethesda game to come to Xbox Game Pass. As Microsoft announced at The Game Awards tonight, the storied RPG will enter the Game Pass library next week on Tuesday, December 15. Skyrim comes on the heels of Doom Eternal, which became part of Xbox Game Pass in November. Clearly, it’s the start of a trend. With Bethesda now under the Microsoft umbrella after a megaton acquisition earlier this year, more and more Bethesda games will be coming to Xbox services, and Game Pass is its bread and butter. Not only that, Microsoft says that future Bethesda games will be available on Xbox Game Pass the day they’re released, including big-hitters like Starfield.”
Great news for anyone who’s a huge fan of Skyrim, or even those who haven’t given it a go yet. We promise, it’s worth it!

Master Chief’s Next Game isn’t Halo Infinite, it’s Fortnite
“After much online speculation, Epic Games confirmed during the Game Awards 2020 that Halo’s Master Chief is now available in Fortnite. In addition to Master Chief, Daryl Dixon and Michonne from AMC’s The Walking Dead will also join the Fortnite cast next week, further expanding the list of guest appearances in Epic’s massively popular Battle Royale.”
Many fans were hoping to see a new Halo game debuted during the Game Awards, but it looks like this is about as good as we’re going to get for now. It’s a pretty cool collab, though!

Nintendo Switch, a Console You Can Actually Buy Right Now, Outsold PS5 and Xbox Series X in November
The best-selling video game console in the US last month was not any of the new hardware from Microsoft or Sony, but a three-year-old device from Nintendo. The Nintendo Switch and its Lite variant sold 1.35 million units last month, according to data from retail analytics firm The NPD Group.
That marks the 24th straight month that Nintendo’s handheld topped the console hardware chart in the US market. Those figures only add to the good holiday news for Nintendo, which last month reported a 40 percent year-over-year increase in Switch sales to 6.86 million units in the quarter that ended September 30th.
This is amazing news but not a huge surprise. Although the Nintendo Switch has been around for a while now, people have been buying Nintendo Switch’s even more during the pandemic. Some people have bought them specifically to buy Animal Crossing: New Horizons! So this was definitely expected.
