Gameplay

The gameplay is like most virtual worlds!

If you haven’t noticed, there are a lot of virtual worlds available on the app store such as Avakin Life, Hotel Hideaway, Highrise, and July. They all have their own qualities that make them different from each other, however, Mini Life reminds me a lot of a cross between Hotel Hideaway and Habbo Hotel.

The first thing you do when you enter Mini Life is creating your character. Surprisingly, the creation of the character is pretty detailed from their gender, hair, skin color, eyebrows, eyes, nose, and lips. You’re greeted by a bot called Aidan who takes you through a very, very long tutorial. In short, the tutorial teaches you how to add friends, wave at friends, chat with friends, collect coins, decorate your house and garden, and switch from room to room. After a while, the tutorial did become really boring and I just wanted to get on with exploring and chatting to people myself. But there I was, still being told what to do by Aidan.

Once Aidan is (finally) done, it’s up to you to explore the different rooms, play games and make friends. Like most virtual worlds!

Graphics

The graphics remind me of Highrise!

Like the gameplay, the graphics remind me of another virtual world: Highrise. Mini Life has very cartoon based graphics that don’t have much movement to them except when you walk around and the characters don’t have any emotion to their faces. The game doesn’t lag or crash, so that’s definitely a bonus.

Music & Sounds

The characters don’t talk, so you have to read the script and there is elevator music playing throughout the game. It all fits together really nicely, I just wished the bot characters like Aidan said a few words instead of having to read everything.

Controls

The controls are easy to follow!

As for the controls, they just consist of tapping to walk around and tapping on other characters to add them, message them, or high five them. It’s very simple to use so there will be no confusion. I did find it a bit tricky to find out which button did what when it came to the options on the screen, though.

The Verdict

What did you think of Mini Life?

Mini Life is a good virtual world game for the older child and I can now understand why it’s rated a 12+ instead of a 4+. As you can upload real pictures on the game, it’s important to not let any younger children play as they could end up speaking to someone a lot older. I liked how Mini Life was a cross between Habbo Hotel and Instagram, making it very with the times and fun all at once.

If you decide to download Mini Life, let us know what you think and if you agree or disagree with any of the things we said. Happy gaming and stay casual!
