Gameplay
Are you ready to make some cash? House Flip allows you to buy cheap houses that need renovating and do them up and sell them for a profit. The first house you come across is a cottage that is going for $50,000. Once you have it, you can find out the problem areas and fix them. In this case, it’s the exterior paint, the kitchen, and the master bedroom. The finished house means that people will start to bid against each other to purchase the house, and you can accept or reject the offers depending on how close they are to your asking price.
A review on the app store mentioned that it’s annoying that you’re not able to design the houses from scratch, and you’re only allowed to fix the things that need repairing and I have to agree. You don’t get the option to pick cushions, beds, windows, or anything of the sort so you are always following somebody else’s design.
Graphics
The graphics in House Flip are pretty standard for an app game – they’re colorful, the characters are drawn and quite detailed, and the houses remind me of those from the Sims 3. My favorite part of the whole aesthetic of the game is that when you’re renovating the house, it sits on its own island in the sky – I thought this was a nice touch.
Music & Sounds
The music is very calming and fits in well – I’ve played interior design games before and they all use the same kind of music. Unfortunately, the characters don’t talk so there’s quite a lot of scripts to get through – especially during the tutorial. They’ve tried to create personalities for the characters but I personally don’t think it works very well without them speaking. I’m not a fan.
Controls
As for the controls, they don’t consist of anything complicated but tapping on the task list to find out the problem areas of the house and to hold down on the rooms to go in them. There isn’t much to comment on with this as it’s fairly easy to use, and I don’t see what else the controls could possibly be apart from tapping.

As House Flip runs off of things “running out”, you’re not going to get anywhere without making a purchase. Sure, you can wait for your Elbow Grease to refill, or for your renovations to be done, but it’s going to take some time. Unless you want to play this game very rarely, it’s most likely worth purchasing something. Hearts are the best value for money and they speed up the renovation process.
The Verdict
I expected more from House Flip, especially since I’ve played home renovation games in the past and thoroughly enjoyed them. As I mentioned, I really do think the game would be tonnes better if you could build the houses as your own and other players could bid on them depending on how good you make it. That would be a more interesting way to play the game for sure, but unfortunately, you can’t play with other players.
