The Pinball Wizard Review

The Pinball Wizard Review!

The Pinball Wizard is an arcade adventure game where the main character is propelled into action by a set of flippers, like the ball in a pinball machine. Each level of the game is a contained area inside a tower. The goal of the game is to survive and get to the top of the tower.” – Frosty Pop

Gameplay

Launch the wizard to get him through the tower!

The gameplay for The Pinball Wizard is where the game shines. I’ve played a lot of pinball-themed games in my time, but never one where I’m launching a mysterious wizard through a tower. Launching the wizard to attack slimes, find keys, and go through doors was a lot of fun!

Graphics

The animation was great for a pinball game!

I thought the graphics were great, I loved the way the animations moved and how adorable the wizard was. You don’t get much to see of the wizard but the back of his head but when you see him at the end of a level cheering because he received the key to the next level, was a nice touch. For games of this nature, it’s easy to skimp out on the graphics but Frosty Pop did an amazing job!

Music

The music was very mysterious and slow which added to the whole vibe of the game. Usually, pinball games are very loud and aggressive, so it was nice to keep the music on and enjoy every second of it. Unfortunately, the wizard doesn’t speak but it also isn’t necessary for this genre.

Controls

Tap the tower’s flippers to control!

Controlling your wizard in The Pinball Wizard is the same as any other pinball game. You have two flippers that you control to launch the wizard into the tower room. But if you’re too slow your wizard will fall so make sure you’re keeping an eye on his location at all times.

In-app Purchases

There were no in-app purchases!

This game was once only available on Apple Arcade and is now completely free with no ads or in-app purchases. What more could a casual app gamer want? Although it would be cool to purchase boosts or skips if a level is frustrating, it’s refreshing to see no microtransactions in a game.

The Verdict

This game had it all!

The Pinball Wizard had it all in my opinion. Frosty Pop took a traditional game and turned it into something exciting with a storyline attached. Not only that, but it had easy controls and absolutely no in-app purchases. Score! I’ll definitely be keeping this on my phone.
