Gameplay

After reviewing SpongeBob: Krusty Cook-Off and enjoying it, for the most part, I was curious to see if there were any other similar games on the app store. While scrolling through Apple Arcade’s list of games, I came across SpongeBob: Patty Pursuit, and I was instantly excited.

Plankton has stolen the Krabby Patty secret recipe and is holding SpongeBob’s friends captive. It’s your job to play as SpongeBob and rescue your friends in a series of platform running levels. I can’t lie, this game shot me right back to being a kid in the ’00s and playing SpongeBob online flash games and I absolutely LOVE it. The game is very well executed along with the storyline feeling like an actual episode.

Graphics

On the topic of the storyline feeling like an episode of the show, the graphics play a big part in this. The graphics are well-detailed, colorful and add so much substance to the gameplay. I can’t fault it!

Music & Sounds

I love the sounds, especially since the characters actually speak (which I did not expect!) and the fact the music fits in with the SpongeBob theme. It seems like this game has been put together well.

Controls

The controls are perfect, I definitely have nothing to complain about in this department. To dash and kill enemies, swipe left or right, to jump, tap, and to smash through things swipe down. The controls are super easy to remember!

The Power of in-app Purchases

As this is an Apple Arcade game, you pay £4.99 a month for the subscription and the games contain no in-app purchases. Pretty cool, huh?

The Verdict

I’ve got to say I thoroughly enjoyed my experience with SpongeBob: Patty Pursuit. Not only did it have a brilliant storyline, but the fact the graphics were almost identical to the show was the icing on the cake. This is one that’s going to stay on my phone for sure.
