Gameplay

The gameplay is a little bit like chess!

Game of Thrones app games have a history of being terrible (cough, Game of Thrones: Conquest, cough) but as Game of Thrones: Beyond the Wall was released last month, I thought I should give it a go anyway. Conquest lacked good graphics, interesting gameplay, and decent controls, so let’s see if this new game makes up for it.

Game of Thrones: Beyond the Wall starts with an introductory scene of some characters trying to get through a snowstorm before bumping into enemies. With a gameplay a little like chess, you have to strategically move your player onto the correct square to unleash the most damage onto the enemies. You can use your standard attack that doesn’t do much damage, or you can use your special attack that will or almost kill them.

Graphics

I enjoyed the graphics, but they’re not the best I’ve seen!

During the actual gameplay, the graphics aren’t great as everything is from a birds-eye view meaning it doesn’t need to be super detailed. However, the cut scenes are great and remind me of an old PS2 game. Which of course, doesn’t make the graphics sound that impressive but I personally like them.

Music & Sounds

Although I enjoy the graphics in the cut scenes, I was disappointed to find out that the characters don’t actually talk and you have to do a lot of reading to understand the story.

Controls

Control by tapping!

To control, tap your character, tap the place you want to go and then tap the enemy you want to attack. At the bottom right-hand side of the screen, there’s an ability button that’ll give you a much stronger attack.

The Verdict

What did you think of Game of Thrones: Beyond the Wall?!

Game of Thrones: Beyond the Wall surprised me a lot, especially since I haven’t had much luck with Game of Thrones games in the past. It doesn’t have much substance to it, however, the storyline is fun to follow along to and the graphics are brilliant.
