Hey Casual Gamers!  I can’t think of any better way to release some aggression than with a great casual fighting app!  What better way to do that than with a game that slightly makes you think about Streets of Rage?

Lets hop into this casual review of Beat Street!

Gameplay

Nothing screams 90’s than a casual app tasking you to clean up the streets!

You are Lee, a young kid with alot of heart!  Lee is given his quest by an old lady tired of seeing street punks in her streets terrorizing the neighborhood!  Armed with the knowledge of fighting from his Grandmaster, Lee sets off in a fighting journey to clean up his town and a few others around him!

The mood is pretty set for this casual fighting app!  In a nod to the fighting games such as Final Fight and Streets of Rage that came before it, Beat Street attempts to be your next casual fighting app to sate your need to let out aggression on some thug rats!

Lee isn’t doing this alone, either!  After completing a few levels, you will get shards for other Beat street heroes!  This includes rapper Soulja Boy for a purchase of $2.99!

Once done with the streets, there’s a co-op mode and tower where you can beat thugs on each level and climb to great rewards!

Graphics

Daily Gifts and wheel spins give items to power up your current hero!

The Pixel art of Beat Street makes for a nostalgia feel when playing through the casual app.  There is a great deal of attention to detail and clear clues of where power-ups and where thug attacks will be coming in.

To be honest, this is one of the few casual apps where I didn’t mind an ad getting in the way every now and then!  The could only mean that I was fully immersed in fighting!  That doesn’t happen too often!

Even the menus and the world map feels like the developers didn’t miss a single pixel of detail!

Music

Each completed level give great rewards!

Truthfully, I’m not a fan of the music.  I get the idea that it’s supposed to be retro, but it just sounds…annoying.  Which is a shame because the sound effects are on point!  I’d rather turn the music off and keep the sound on!  It’s a pretty bad miss, because the music only slightly changes in different areas!

Thankfully, this is an option in the settings menu!

Controls

Always been a casual duty of mine to help the elderly in need!

What really makes this a great casual app is the controls.  Beat Street offers the hack n slash controls.  In order to pull of power moves, there’s usually just one flick or holding down your tap for a while before an unleash.

Another great system is the way power-ups work.  There are a few ways to improve your character, one of the easiest is collecting enough of their shards to level it up.  These come with clear cost and shows how to get any items needed for the upgrade.

Some upgrade requires gems, but most of the gems I’ve acquired have been found in game.

The Power of in-app Purchases

Always look for the best price break when it comes to spending money on items!

I plan on making a purchase for this casual app.  Not sure what yet, but I’m on board with supporting the developers for this one!  There’s isn’t much of a push to purchase, which I love!  Ad clicks are usually to double rewards and there’s no forced ads I’ve ran into yet.  That’s makes the hack n slasher in me button happy!

Beat Street seems to match the pace you play at as well, there doesn’t seem to be much of an issue clearing levels, provided you use a bit of skill.

The Verdict

Spin the Lucky Wheel for great prizes daily!

This casual app is a keeper!  While the music was my only real peeve about it was the music, and a simple casual playlist can take care of that!  Don’t miss out if you love fighting games of the 90s!  If fighting the thugs of the street and becoming the best street fighting alive, this is your casual app!
