When I saw Grumpy Cat’s Worst Game Ever on the app store, I got extremely excited. Who doesn’t love Grumpy Cat? It was advertised as the worst game I will ever play. Us casual gamers will see about that. Enter the game to play mini-games that include jumping from cloud to cloud, pulling needles out of fur, catching birds, launching yourself into a box, and more.
Completing these levels before the time runs out scores you more points, and if you don’t complete the levels in time, you will lose 1 of 3 of your lives. Think of Grumpy Cat’s Worst Game Ever as a cross between Dumb Ways to Die and WarioWare Smooth Moves.
Remember, win or lose, Grumpy Cat will never be happy.
The graphics are very classically designed that it looks like a game from the ’90s, and the game doesn’t take up the whole of my screen. But it’s not a big deal as everything works smoothly, and it looks great aesthetically.
At the end of each level, you’re given a cartoon version of a Grumpy Cat meme which I think is a nice feature.
Like the graphics, the music included in the game is very retro and fits in perfectly with how everything looks. However, I did find the music gave me a headache after a while as it is pretty loud and intense. If you press the pause button, you can turn the music and sounds off.
The controls totally depend on what mini-game you’re playing. For example, if you’re playing the game where you need to pick the needles from the fur, you have to swipe the screen. But if you’re playing the game where you have to jump from cloud to cloud, you tap on the shape that matches the cloud. Most of the games, however, consist of swiping instead of tapping.
Coins can be bought or collected through completing levels. The coins can be spent on the grabber where you pick a container and there’s a prize waiting – this costs 100 coins to play.
Considering this is called the worst game ever, it actually isn’t bad at all. I found it to be entertaining, fast-paced, and pretty difficult in some places. It’s definitely a brilliant game for any kids out there who love Grumpy Cat!
