“This is Cardpocalypse. Make friends, play cards, twist the rules, become a Mega Mutant Power Pets master, and try to save the world in this single-player RPG about being a 90’s kid. On her first day at Dudsdale Elementary, 10-year old Jess accidentally gets everybody’s favorite collectible card game banned, forcing the kids to take their card battles underground. If you like Hearthstone, you’re more than likely going to like Cardpocalypse. In this game, you play as a 10-year-old girl called Jess who starts a new school and accidentally gets everyone’s favorite card game banned. Students from the school decide to take this underground in order to avoid getting in trouble but things get complicated when mutants from the game invade the real world.
The game plays exactly like Hearthstone, just with pets instead. Each pet has its own special attack or defense, and you need to play strategically in order to win.
As for the graphics, they’re extremely unique and something I’ve never seen before in a game. Versus Evil has done a great job in making sure their visuals stand out compared to other card games, rather than going down the easy route and copying.
The music and sounds that come with Cardpocalypse are very 90s and I absolutely love it. It makes you feel like you’re living the life of a kid from the 90s obsessed with a card game again. Amazing!
To control, all you need to do is drag your chosen card towards the opponent’s card you want to attack. Be careful and remember to play strategically otherwise you’ll end up screwing yourself over and losing points.
Cardpocalpyse is included in the Apple Arcade subscription ($4.99 a month) so it contains no in-app purchases or ads.
Cardpocalypse is an extremely fun card battle game with a gripping storyline and unique graphics. There’s nothing not to love. I’m definitely going to keep this on my phone for some time and hopefully convince my friends to play too!
