What Iphone Should I use for Casual Gaming?
As you may or may not know, Apple’s newest iPhone design that is yet to be released has been leaked and it’s an exciting time for us mobile gamers. There’s always an article or two published explaining what the current best phones are for gaming but I’m pretty loyal to the iPhone.
iPhone 5
I currently have the iPhone XS but my previous phone was an iPhone 5. Let me tell you, there is a huge difference between the models! Sometimes the gameplay would be so hard on the device, I would have to switch to my iPad.
As you can tell with the earlier reviews, most of them were played on an iPad due to the 5s being terrible. It’s funny because an article in 2012 states that the iPhone 5 is the best phone for gaming. The article stated that the fact that the iPhone 5 is larger than the iPhone 4, there is a lot of room for grip and controls. They also said the graphics were spectacular and were a massive upgrade from the previous models. They even went as far as to say that the iPhone 5’s improvements were awfully close to the Playstation Vita and Nintendo 3DS.
Of course, I don’t agree with the article – but it was written in 2012. We always think we’re at the best technology possible until something new comes out and it blows our minds. The iPhone 5 is far too small to play games on and the controls will just end up all being squashed together and that’s never fun. Not to mention, apps take significantly longer to upload and the storage only goes up to 64GB which is barely anything.
When I had the iPhone 5s it also came to my attention that some game developers aren’t creating their games for older models anymore and if you have anything older than an iPhone 7, you can’t play. Fortnite has this rule and it means Epic Games can focus more on building their games around what phone models most people have.
iPhone XS
Personally, I think the iPhone XS is the best. In a few years, I’ll probably say different. The iPhone XS is great due to the Super Retina OLED 5.8 inch screen. Because of this, everything looks automatically 10x more colorful and vibrant. However, the iPhone XS Max is probably an even better option when it comes to screen size as this whopper is 6.5 inches.
iPhone 8 Plus
Although this phone is going on 2 years on now, it still has great potentials as a casual gaming console. If you have a budget, it definitely brings the price down and the 1080p resolution plays a big part in how amazing the game will be visual. The iPhone 8 Plus also has the A11 Bionic chipset that is found in the iPhone X. It runs the latest version of iOS so if that isn’t value for money, I don’t know what is! You can also get up to 256GB of storage. All your favorite games will fit perfectly!
What’s in store for the future of the iPhone and how will it affect casual gamers?
According to MacRumors, 2019 is expected to bring continuations of the iPhone XS and XR devices. This means there won’t be a brand spanking new device available. We’ll see 5.8 and 6.5 inch OLED iPhones along with a 6.1 inch LCD iPhone. There is also a possibility that Apple could be going fully OLED with its new iPhones, meaning LCD will be a thing of the past. Your app games are about to look a whole lot clearer!
All of the new iPhones are likely to have upgraded A13 chips from TSMC (Apple’s chip supplier). This upgrade will improve the performance and efficiency of the phone meaning faster download time. Win-win! There’s also a chance of seeing faster wifi due to WiFi 6 and LTE speeds. The new iPhone’s will support wireless charging like with the Airpods.
When is the best time to upgrade an iPhone?
If you’re a huge Apple fan, you will know that Apple holds a big event in mid-September where they announce new products and iOS updates. During the event, Apple announces the prices for their new products and around this time. The prices of all older models are reduced by around $100. This means if you’re not bothered by getting the latest phone, it’s still best to wait as you’ll get a discount. The worst time to purchase an iPhone is in August because a month later you’ll be kicking yourself for not waiting for the newer model or not saving yourself money.
Buying a new phone can be overwhelming at the best of times but especially when you’re buying it for a specific reason. The key things to consider when purchasing a new iPhone for gaming is:
- performance
- size of phone
- screen technology
- storage
If you have all of those covered, you’re likely to have a grand time casual gaming. Let us know what your favorite iPhone to game on is. Happy gaming and stay casual!
