The gameplay is different from any other match-3 games I’ve played before!

The gameplay starts with Amy the Hedgehog and Ax Battler meeting each other on the same planet, but from different dimensions. They decide to team up and rescue their friends. To fight with the opposing team, you need to match-3 icons in a row to attack, defend yourself or release a special move. The more matches you make, the more powerful your hit will be. Once you complete the first fight, you meet AiAi from Super Monkey Ball – having him on this team will shield and heal you when you need it. His special move is dropping an influx of bananas on top of the enemy.

The graphics are the best part!

I think the graphics are my favorite part of the game as they’ve taken a whole bunch of characters from SEGA games and made them fit into one. The characters they’ve taken like Sonic the Hedgehog, Shinobi, and Golden Axe have all been redesigned to look like they’re all part of the same game. And I think it looks awesome. I’ve never been too big on SEGA games apart from Sonic the Hedgehog so I’m super glad Sonic and co are included!

Music & Sounds

As for the menu music, it’s the Sonic menu theme song which made me feel super nostalgic. But there’s other music, which I am pretty sure are from other SEGA games, but I wouldn’t know. The sounds consist of when you hit the opposing team, when you get attacked and when

The controls are pretty much the same as every other match-3 game!

As the game is ultimately based on match-3, it’s quite obvious what I’m going to say about the controls. You drag the icons to match-3 and each color means something. Match blue to attack with Ax Battler, match green and Amy Rose will attack, and click the MANA button when it’s full – this will release the characters special move.

The Verdict

What did you think of SEGA Heroes?

Even though SEGA Heroes is ultimately just a match-3 game, it definitely has unique perks that keep me interested. The fact it’s a turn-based battle and a match-3 game mixed up makes it different to any other game I’ve played on the app store! As I said, SEGA has never been my cup of tea, but I definitely recommend this to any big fans out there.
