Gameplay

Don’t let the zombies reach your house!

Like most app games, once you enter Plants vs Zombies 2, you’re thrown into a tutorial. In this tutorial, you have to plant as many plants as you can in your garden to attack all of the zombies. The aim of the game is to stop the zombies from reaching your house. A feature that attracted me to Plants vs Zombies 2 almost straight away was that you can play it offline. The vast majority of games on the app store need a wifi connection to play, but no matter where you are in the world, you can play Plants vs Zombies 2 until your heart’s content. What more could you want from an app game really?

Graphics

The graphics are pretty standard for an app game!

The graphics happen to be pretty standard, although the characters are pretty recognizable to what they look like on the console game. Everything moves smoothly doesn’t lag and the game doesn’t crash. I’d say the graphics overall are above average, however not outstanding.

Music

The sounds and music fit in perfectly with the music. I love the music, it’s kind of cheery yet creepy at the same time, and isn’t annoying or repetitive at all. The thing that is annoying is the zombies that continuously say brains.

Controls

Plant your plants by tapping and dragging!

The controls are simple and easy to use. To plant, all you have to do is drag your plant to the grass or tap the plant button and then the grass. Once they have been planted, they will start to attack the zombies. There are falling suns that you also need to tap as well – these help you plant more plants quicker.

The Power of in-app Purchases

Purchase cool items from the shop!

I played a good number of levels and I couldn’t find a store either. Plants vs Zombies 2 doesn’t even have ads. So on top of being able to play it without wifi, you don’t have to spend a dime. Electronic Arts have really hit the nail on the head with this game. Update: I played the game a bit further and it does contain in-app purchases, it’s just unlocked until you complete the first few levels. Like most app games, there’s an overwhelming amount of things you can purchase so I won’t bore you with them but you can purchase packs, coins and gems. These help you purchase plants most importantly and improve your overall gaming experience.

The verdict

Plants vs Zombies 2 had a lot to live up to considering the console game is seriously addictive. However, everything about this game was simple, hence the short review. There isn’t much I can write about this game. It would be a great game to play when you have a spare 5 minutes, but it definitely gets a bit boring after a while. If you decide to download Plants vs Zombies 2, let us know what you think and if you agree or disagree with any of the points we made. Happy gaming!
