Doomguy. He’s be our best line of defense when it comes to killing the hordes of undead. Mighty DOOM is a casual app that offers your favorite guy doing his most cherished job. However, is this installment of is his latest adventure worth your casual time?
Gameplay
Time to slay some demons! mighty DOOM puts Doomguy in an endless world of demons, zombies, and other unworldly minions. If you every played Archero or games similar, this casual app might be up your alley.
Sadly, if you tire of those games, this may let you down. The formula of gameplay is there as you clear level after level and upgrade gear, yet there’s a bit of a yearning for me. It may not be the same experience for others, but for those who casually game as a habit, this might be surprisingly underwhelming.
That said, this casual app is a solid adventure.
Graphics
Impressive and attention to detail make the grind in mighty DOOM manageable. There’s enough destruction to please long time fans.
Speaking of destruction, Doomguy make sure to take out bosses in the most disrespectful way possible. from gutting foes to completely dismembering bodies, if your stomach isn’t up for the gore, then DOOM and it’s titles are not for you!
Glory kills are pretty easy to pull off, and visually satisfying after dodging a hail of bullets.
Music & Sounds
If you don’t find the excitement of mighty DOOM, fear not, there’s an announcer that hypes what’s going on.
I want to be a fan of the pageantry, but it can get annoying at times after hearing over the levels.
Outside of that, this casual app can be enjoyable enough. The music matches the tone of what’s going on, but seems kinda lackluster. I’m always down for a catchy tune in my head, but it’s just not there.
Controls
Mighty DOOM has some respectable controls. Most of the levels play like a mad dash of bullets and minions rushing Doomguy. It may take some getting used to, but the special and ultimate abilities are rather close to the controls to move allowing one handed play.
There’s really not much to complain about here. There’s enough forecasting of bullets and bombs to know when to move around. Skill kicks in when a glory kill setup happens in the middle of a bunch of demons throwing bullets around.
The Power of in-app Purchases
I have to admit that I haven’t found any reason to make a purchase in mighty DOOM. There’s different kind of armors to equip on Doomguy, but of course they cost a bit to purchase.
There’s also some rather decent deals based on level and event. This is one of those casual apps that players should pay attention to what is needed to level up.
With gear, armor, and talents to level it’s easy to mix up what tokens is needed.
The Verdict
Overall, mighty Doom was a disappointing meh of a casual app. It feels like the formula has been used over a few games, but there are a few cool parts.
With the setting and the glory kills, Doomguy does amazing work taking care of the horde of demons coming his way. I’d like to think that would be enough to create a great casual app, alas it’s just a cool name with mediocre gameplay.
