It’s so easy to get caught up in the big releases nowadays – a lot of it is to do with FOMO. But what if we were to say there are so many indie games that are just as good?
Indie (independent) games are developed by individuals or small groups and are often created on a low budget or an average design team. This means that sometimes they don’t look the best, but can they still be playable?

Glitch Dash is made by David Marquardt and it was a big hit here at The Casual App Gamer! The aim of the game is to get through the abstract course where obstacles get in the way. I rated it 4/5 due to how addicting the gameplay was. It has a level of frustration when you can’t complete a level, so I found myself playing and playing. On top of this, I didn’t expect to love a game like this in the first person but it was an even better experience! Glitch Dash would be amazing in VR if possible one day.

Papa Luigi’s Pizza, made by Noodlecake Labs is a twist on your average pizza-making games. Follow Papa Luigi’s strict pizza standards by zapping any pizzas that don’t match and keeping any that do. If you zap the wrong pizzas, you will lose points. We loved this game due to how unique it was and it really did stand out from other games we’ve played on the app store.

Company: Kwalee
Genre: Puzzle, Indie Games

Made by Kwalee, Draw It is very similar to Draw Something. Despite this, Draw It has much nicer graphics along with more interesting words to draw. Personally, I would always pick Draw It over Draw Something to support an indie developer but they’re not much different. To win you need to draw whatever item you see at the top of the screen and the AI will try to guess what it is.

Developed by Andrey Pryakhin, Last Day on Earth: Survival is all about, well, surviving. You’re not given a lot of guidance on how to play, so if you’re looking for a proper strategic game, this is it. You really have to use your brain when working out where you can go to escape the zombies and how to build items – it all adds to the fun of it.

Sniper 3D Assassin: Shoot to Kill, made by Fun Games For Free, is a first-person shooter where you need to aim your sniper carefully at the target. You only have one shot before the target notices you so make it count! The graphics are brilliant for an indie game and the controls are easy to use!
Those are our top 5 picks for indie games you should be playing. We’re sure over time we will fall in love with many more games made by independent developers, but for now, enjoy these gems! Happy gaming and stay casual!
