Gameplay
With a random dude in a far off land never heard of, Gun & Dungeons is pretty straightforward in lore. The fun comes into the random dungeons players are thrusted into.
This is pretty lax as a shooter, but good reflexes are needed in the later levels. Should you get stuck on some of the story levels, there’s a survial mode that rewards those coins needed to get those gear levels up.
Graphics
Being a fan of Minecraft graphics would help any casual gamer enjoy Gun & Dungeons. Truthfully, it’s rather enjoyable to blow up pixeled minons rushing towards me.
I suppose that’s the OG gamer in me doing what it does. Anytime that guy is happy I know I’ve stumbled on a great casual app.
Music & Sounds
Gun & Dungeons doesn’t really need sound, but it’s recommend. The BGM is pretty relax and at times catchy, and hearing things happening in dungeons can be critial as some items can be interacted with.
One thing to watch for is the spawning of new minons. Some can spawn outside of the view, so hearing them shoot helps with moving to the next stage.
This is one casual app you might forget that you went afk and left the music on.
Controls
The simplicty is in the controls with Gun & Dungeons. With just a joystick and a special weapon attack, more focus and be used on dodge and attacking. Some interactions on the field may take some getting used to, but learning how to use the dynamite keg can create powerful explosions and decimate waves of minons.
Another relief is how simple all the menus are. Looking for new item icons tagged on gear and unused talents helps a great deal to upgrade and get back into the action.
The Power of in-app Purchases
Gun & Dungeons offers rather moderate sales. To be fair, there’s enough gameplay and ad-driven rewards to not really think about making a purchase. I’m sure there’s an arugment to make a purchase to improve the talent tree, but I just feel like it’s better to unlock this casual app naturally.
Unlocking the extra skill in dungeons can come in handy should any purchase be considered.
The Verdict
To put it blunty Gun & Dungeons kinda slaps. It’s one of those gem of a casual app that you can put down for a while, and come back to it and it still gives you that jolt of casual destruction we crave so much.
There’s plenty of other shooters out there, but this casual app is quirky enough to stay on your phone or tablet for updates to come.
