Gameplay
When it comes to these types of games where you need to stay on the course without falling off, they’re usually made in the third person – allowing you to see what character or object you are and being able to customize yourself. However, Glitch Dash is in first person meaning you are up close and personal with your obstacles and it feels a lot more like you’re actually the one running/driving/flying through. I didn’t think I’d like the fact it’s in the first-person as they usually make me feel nervous but I was surprisingly into it. It doesn’t make the game any harder like I initially thought it was and it definitely adds a more lifelike vibe to it.
Graphics
I love how vibrant and colorful the graphics for Glitch Dash are. Although they’re not the most detailed out there, there’s a lot to look at and it makes you feel like you’re on the course. This game would be even more amazing on VR as it gives you that virtual reality vibe just by playing it on the iPhone.
Music & Sounds
I’m not usually impressed by the music in games, and most of the time I end up turning it off through settings. Glitch Dash, however, has a brilliant soundtrack where the graphics move along to the beat. It makes you feel like you’re in a music video of some sort and it doesn’t get annoying at any point because it doesn’t repeat itself.
As for the sounds, not much goes in that department as it’s very musically focused. The only noted sound during the gameplay happens when you die.
Controls
I’m not sure exactly what I expected from the controls, but I certainly didn’t expect to be swiping in a first-person game. I thought there would be a joypad on the left or right-hand side of the screen but I must admit, the swiping makes it that little harder in a good way. It just means you really need to watch your surroundings or you’ll die.
The Power of in-app Purchases
If you have read a lot of our reviews, you will notice that most app store games have a million ways to make in-app purchases that it’s super overwhelming. But not this time. Glitch Dash has a premium option that costs only £2.99 – it gets you unlimited everything, unlocks all levels, unlocks all game modes, and no more ads. For the price, that is really amazing whether you’re obsessed with the game or not.
The Verdict
Although the actual concept of the game is nothing new to the app store, I found the fact that it’s in first-person utterly fascinating. The visuals were lovely, along with the easy controls and I definitely think I’m going to keep this one.
