Gameplay

Upon entering the game, you’re thrown straight into a tutorial where you work with Mirage and learn the basics of the game. This includes jumping, sliding, climbing, shooting, and picking up items. Once the tutorial is finished, you can register as a legend.
If you’re unfamiliar with Apex Legends, it’s a hero-based shooting game with each playable legend having a unique role associated with them. They are:
- Offensive Legends: They have special abilities that give them an advantage during combat.
- Defensive Legends: They have special abilities that help the team defend themselves or fortify an area.
- Recon Legends: They have special abilities that allow them to collect valuable intel about enemies.
- Supportive Legends: They have special abilities that can provide healing to teammates.
The game supports multiple modes which include:
- Battle Royale
- Multiplayer
- Tutorial Level
- Free Practice
- Ranked Match
My personal favorite is battle royale as it allows you to show what you’re made of. Just like any battle royale game, you have to gather supplies when you land, race against a closing map, and be the last man standing.
As a big fan of PUBG Mobile, I couldn’t help but compare to it but Apex Legends comes as a close second in terms of gameplay. It was easy to navigate the map, seek out enemies and keep track of teammates.
Graphics

The graphics are great. They look console-quality and look similar to how I would expect them to look on the Nintendo Switch. The gameplay didn’t crash or lag at all which is a good sign. It seems like Electronic Arts put a lot of effort into making the mobile version of the game run just as well as the console versions.
Music & Sounds
The start-up screen has loud and intense music, aiming to rile you up for the battle. However, thankfully, the game goes quiet once you land. All you can hear is the sound of footsteps and guns shooting. This is important as you need to be able to hear if any enemies are creeping up on you!
Controls

While this is usually the case with console games moving to mobile, the controls are much harder to play. It takes a while to get used to the buttons, and I admit, that I made quite a few wrong moves at the beginning. I’ve played Apex Legends on the Playstation before and found the controls a lot easier to follow.
I also liked that you could switch from the first person to the third person. I always prefer playing in the third person and find it makes it a lot easier to play.

The Verdict

I highly enjoyed playing this battle royale. It was different from any other I’ve played before so it makes sense as to why it’s so popular.
