Gameplay

Race against your components – but don’t fall on your head or it’s game over!

Hill Climb Racing 2 is an online racing game that’s ridiculously addictive. I progressed through the game and I just wanted to keep winning the races – it was hard to stop.

As I imagined, the gameplay for Hill Climb Racing 2 is very similar to the first game. You start in a Jeep, and you race it across a very hilly and bumpy road. The idea of the game is to win the race while avoiding landing on your head when you fly off the steep hill. Gravity obviously isn’t a thing in this game because your vehicle is able to pop wheelies, fly through the air, and flip over easily. If you perform this tricks, you will be rewarded with bonus points in the form of coins, but the minute your head touches the ground – the game is over.

There are limited controls which we’ll get into later but Hill Climb Racing 2 requires a lot of strategy and skill to progress quickly.

On top of that, each vehicle you drive works differently – as expected. The Jeep you get at the beginning is slow and steady, the scooter is light and airborne mostly, and the super Jeep is fast and rugged. This keeps the game interesting as mastering one vehicle will not prepare you for the next one and you’ll be constantly learning.

Hill Climb Racing 2 requires you to have an active internet connection for the Cup mode where most of the action is situated. However, if you’re online, you can still play in adventure mode. So don’t fret if you’re without wifi. Those long road trips have been saved!

Graphics

Hill Climb Racing 2 has cartoon-style graphics!

Hill Climb Racing 2 has nice cartoony graphics. They remind me of what you would find on one of those online gaming websites like Agame or Miniclip. Which figures because the games that are featured on those websites are very similar to app games anyway.

The graphics are 2D and don’t necessarily give me the wow factor, but they don’t need to be great due to the gameplay. It’s a racing game with simple controls, there is no point in having amazing graphics for something so standard. You wouldn’t expect Flappy Bird to have console-style graphics.

On top of this, the game didn’t lag or crash so that’s always a plus from me!

Music

Not going to beat around the bush here, the music is annoying. I’m pretty sure it’s still Halloween themed at the moment as the music sounds very Dracula-esque. So they should probably hurry up and do an update. The sounds are basic as all you can really hear while you’re playing is the revving of engines. Oh, and someone saying 3 2 1 at the beginning. Very standard but it doesn’t affect the gameplay in my opinion.

Controls

Easy controls with two buttons!

I mentioned before that Hill Climb Racing 2 had simple controls – and that always wins points with me. When it comes to the controls, you have a gas pedal on the right and you have to hold it down for the duration of the race. On the left side of the screen you have a break, this will help you turn in the air to stop you from landing on your head and dying.

The Power of in-app Purchases

Purchase packs, gems, and coins from the store!

Of course, Hill Climb Racing 2 offers in-app purchases. There sadly isn’t many app games out there that don’t! The contents of the shop is pretty standard as are most. You can purchase packs, chests, gems, and coins. These all get you further in the game, of course. However, they’re definitely not a necessity. Hill Climb Racing 2 also offers a subscription that I haven’t seen on any other app games. The subscription is £8.99 a month and this makes it 100% ad-free, and you receive a daily VIP chest and VIP customizations.

There’s currently a Halloween bundle available for 3 days which is weird considering Halloween was weeks ago. If you’re interested in the spooky theme, it includes a rally car, 2x legendary driver outfits, legendary rally car paint and 2000 gems for £6.99.

The verdict

What did you think of Hill Climb Racing 2?

I really enjoyed playing this game and I feel like it would be a perfect quick game to play when you’re bored on the train, at work (shhh) etc. And what makes this possible is that you don’t even have to have wifi to play this! Perfect.

My favorite part of Hill Climb Racing 2 overall was the controls. I am a sucker for an easy to play game and this hit the spot.

If you decide to play Hill Climb Racing 2, let us know what you think and if you agree or disagree with any of the points we made. Happy gaming!
