A Beginner’s Guide to Mario Kart Tour

A Beginner’s Guide to Mario Kart Tour

For the longest time, Super Mario fans have been begging for a Mario Kart game for mobile. We got Super Mario Run and that wasn’t the best, so could Mario Kart Tour be any better? Millions of people downloaded it a few months ago when it was released, but it’s definitely not the easiest game to play with all of the differences to the console game.

Feeling lost around the hype for Mario Kart Tour? Just can’t hack it? We’ve got the beginner’s guide for you. Now, you might be thinking that because you’ve played the console versions of Mario Kart, you’ll be able to play Mario Kart Tour. Not true. Mario Kart Tour has been developed for mobile, it plays differently and works around how mobile gaming works.

Save Up Rubies

Save up Rubies!

Coins are really easy to collect, however, rubies are not. Rubies can only be used to fire off the green pipes to collect characters and other helpful items. If you’re feeling impatient, you can purchase:

  • 3 rubies for £1.99
  • 10 rubies for £5.99
  • 23 rubies for £12.99
  • 48 rubies for £25.99
  • 93 rubies for £48.99
  • 135 rubies for £64.99

It costs 5 rubies to shoot of the green pipes.

Log in Every Day, Even If you Don’t Play

Simply logging in will gain you rewards including coins and rubies. Collect these up, so when you next play the game you have a few extra rewards to help.

You can’t fall off track

Don’t worry, falling off the track isn’t possible!

Many people find Mario Kart pretty challenging because the courses make you fall off and it can take a few seconds for you to start moving on. However, Mario Kart Tour doesn’t have that option, so even if you do nothing, you still can’t fall off track.

Swipe Up When in the Air

When you go over any ramps, swipe up to glide as long as you can. This will give you a speed boost, and as you’re not on the track, you won’t be hit by anything.

Turn Off Auto Item

Turn off auto-item for that classic Mario Kart experience!

Another difference with Mario Kart Tour is that if you have an item queued up, driving through another item box will replace it. It’s best to turn this feature off to give it a more traditional Mario Kart feel and will help you strategically plan with your items.

Be Strategic With Your Choice of Characters and Karts

It can be tempting to pick your favorite character and the best-looking kart, but it isn’t the best recipe for the most optimal gameplay. For example, pick Toad or Toadette on a Toad circuit and you’ll receive 3 items per box. Choose your kart to match the character and receive bonus points.

Smart Steering is perfect for beginners

Smart steering is great when you want to focus on other aspects of the game!

Smart Steering will make the race a lot easier for you, especially since you don’t have to worry about drifting as the game will automatically do that for you. So with that out of the way, you can focus on other parts of the game.

However, once you become more of an intermediate at the game, you should turn off Smart Steering. Manual Drift means you need to touch the screen to start drifting.

Try out the two-week free trial of the Gold Pass

For the small price of £4.99 a month, you can try out the Gold Pass. Or if you’re a new player, you can do a two-week free trial to see if it’s for you.

Included in the Gold Pass:

  • get gold gifts by racing in tours
  • earn badges from gold challenges
  • unlock 200cc races

Connect through Twitter and Facebook to see which of your friends are also playing Mario Kart Tour. Unfortunately, Mario Kart Tour still doesn’t support multiplayer but you can check on their scores.

These tips should help you master how great Mario Kart Tour truly is. It’s not the exact same as the console versions for many reasons, however, it is wonderful for when you’re craving Mario Kart and can’t get to a Nintendo device.
